No
wonder why I chose such a topic for this blog. Procrastination for me presently
is what I have been doing after my second blog until now. Thinking and thinking
about writing on this topic and just not picking up the pen. You must have
noticed that most of the topics I have been covering in my blogs are the ones I
personally have struggled with or rather dealing with at present.(Check out the
link down below if you haven't read👇)

Ever since I was a kid, I have been a person who easily puts off things for
later or future and then rarely or never ever doing them. Back then I had
elders around me like my parents and teachers who pushed me to finish any task
on time whether I liked it or not.The fear of these people made me take things
as granted. I never really gave a single thought about this habit of mine for I
knew that people are always around me to take care of the same.It was only when
I became a mother that I realized that I was left with no choice, no people
pushing me ,but to do something about this nasty thing.
Not that I have mastered the art of doing or completing things on time but at
least I have started putting aside less things for future and completing more
things right away. Now how I started this is a long story of frustration,
cribbing, regretting, contemplating, moving back and forth during my
improvement journey (which still happens😕)and
what not! I read several articles on how to overcome procrastination, watched
you tube videos on the same and ended up wasting days with doing only little or
unsatisfactory things for my bad habit. I watched videos or read about
procrastination, becoming happy for a day or two and then back to what I was.
It was by God's grace, a fine day that my father's words visited my mind-
"If you keep thinking about a thing and feel that you are struggling to
get it right, you will never get it right."
No matter how unmotivating this may sound to you guys but it has
always worked like magic for me.
Problems are attention seekers. The more we give them attention the more
they tease us. Once we stop worrying about them they are on track and get
solved with lesser efforts.
Although, I am unable to find the answer for why I keep forgetting these words
always. May be because useful and life changing thoughts are so precious that
they come to mind only when its free from junk. The VIP's you see 😎!
This war with procrastination has evolved me from being lethargic to a maniac
and finally being sane as a saint.😇
Ahhh! So ya, I finally stopped worrying about it and shifted my mind on
the WHY'S of putting things off for later. These were:
* I was lazy
* I was lazy because I wasn't moving enough
* I wasn't moving enough because I wasn't feeling well
So here I came to the point of taking care of myself first. Physically and
most importantly MENTALLY.
Here's what I did and do now:
- Working out the body and mind:
I still try to be
consistent on this one. Working on my body and mind ,preparing both for the day
keeps at least my mind in shape if not body(which will take time😜....but I'll get
there I promise✌).This makes me do
more throughout the day, leaving less things on tomorrow's shoulder.
2. Big
frog first:
"Eat the frog , but the big one first". Well not
literally but yes doing the toughest things first, clears a lot of space in my
mind for rest of the small tasks. I can do them more efficiently with my mind
at peace with the hardest part of the day.
3.Stop
overestimating:
I read somewhere that we underestimate the time taken to complete a DIY
project and overestimate the time taken to do an everyday routine work.
Nothing holds true than this one and having experienced this I can vouch for
it.
Sitting and just watching loads of dishes in the sink thinking that it'll take
ages to clean them is nothing but killing time imagining stories.Instead
skipping the thinking part for later and just getting up and doing it makes
such a difference in the sanity and now ....THINKING that it took lesser time
than expected feels like just receiving a gift that you always wanted.(You
ought to expect such 'gift' lines from a female blogger😏)
4.Thoughtlessness:
This is the last point that actually connects to all other points and hence
becomes the most essential one. We all have extremely important things to churn
our minds on. Don't we? So rather than pondering on whether to do something now
or later, why not throw it out of you brain and do it right away?
Eventually the mind and heart will be free to think and feel about more
important things respectively.Things which are worth our attention.
I started being thoughtless before doing any task which I dreaded to do earlier
and just got up most of the time to start doing them.
I now know the reason behind the long lasting procrastinating habit which
was lack of excersice leading to excuses in the mind for getting things done
later and also overestimating the time it would actually take to finish.I must
mention that I am no fitness freak but getting some type of workout done in the
first few hours of the day keeps a mom healthy and wise(yes I've skipped
wealthy...not sure of that😝)
On a serious note, I am at peace with this bad habit for I know where I was
wrong and what to do.
As moms we must understand that we can not do it all every single time. So, if
there are days where things are left aside because you could not do them or
even if you don't feel the importance of doing them, IT SHOULD BE FINE. This
doesn't define procrastination.
Procrastinating is when we want to do an important task, we know
that we can do it but just don't do it blaming anything in the world but
ourselves.
I don't know if there is or has been a procrastinator like me but it will be
more than just a blessing to know if this blog helps to improve somebody's life
in even the smallest way possible.
Those who have never suffered from such a thing, many CONGRATULATIONS to
them.
Do let me know in the comments if you are or have been a procrastinator and how
did you deal or have been dealing with this monster.
Remember: Nothing is more exhausting than a task
that is never started.
Wishing you all a Procrastination free life.
